Hey Exit

This is my main thing right now. I'm focusing mostly on improvisation, and specifically finding new ways to play the guitar by way of extended technique, preparation, signal processing, and alternative amplification methods.

Other instruments include koto, vocals, and contact mics.

You can check out the Hey Exit web site, or just listen:

There's also a MySpace page if that's your thing.

Crust

Crust is my old punk band from high school - I "sang" and played guitar / electronics. Our work helped shape my ear in a big way. (Admittedly, this take of The Old Man Bleeding Eardrums Medley is still some of the most fun I've ever had playing music.) I think we were best experienced in a live context, but our recordings were also pretty fun. I was completely blown away when I found out we'd been ripping off Boredoms.

Fair warning: Most of these are pretty abrasive, loud, obscene, and juvenile. Seriously.

Scatterbrain

I used to make some electronic pop music, influenced by a lot of 90's IDM and video-gamey stuff. I did an EP called You Make Me Feel So Young in early 2007, just after I moved to Boston to study at Berklee. Some of the material is pretty old at this point, but it's got a little charm to it.

I kind of abandoned this stuff while I was in the middle of putting an album together. It sounded like this:

Odds, Ends

I recorded a sample kit of beatbox sounds with Edward Loveall. He pressed buttons while I stood in front of a microphone and made funny noises. Included in the kit are snares, kicks, toms, cymbols, and a number of effects, most of which are sampled at multiple velocities. You can download both the samples themselves and a Battery kit right here:

Here are 30 one-second compositions from early 2009.
